What a wealth of talented performers, poets, storytellers, and singers with an international flavour. The performers were mainly North London based, some from an Enfield poetry group, some from Highgate Poets and some from Hackney and Holloway.
We started with Alan Day (who came for the open mic) who says he writes narrative, accessible poetry with a touch of comedy. Followed by
Rob Saunders - a melodic poet who also happens to make the masks for The Phantom of the Opera - in the West End.
Anna Mikiewicz - a Polish poet who runs a publishing company called Literary Waves - which publishes American and Eastern European anthologies
Poppy Mendenis - a poet and reedy-voiced singer, she sometimes here accompanies Sumana on her guitar. She runs her own poetry workshops.
Nejdet Atas a Kurdish -Turkish poet who came to read a poem from a famous Turkish poet for the Open Mic.
Alan Wolfson, (in)famous in Crouch End- a clever alliterative wordsmith. Alan is running a poetry event for The Crouch End Festival on July 7th 2023
Mary Duggan who is the co-MC for this event ( she runs the first half) also runs poetry events for Enfield Poets and is herself an accomplished poet - a poetic, feminist, Climate Change activist.
Tess Joseph, a Jewish Lesbian poet who tells Yiddish stories about her Jewish grandmother
Alex Allen whose original poetry has been displayed in the National Poetry Library - a member of Highgate Poets.
and Anna Meryt (co-MC with Mary Duggan) a well-published poet and memoir writer with 2 (about to be 3) poetry collections on Amazon.
Sumana, an ordained Buddhist from the Triratna buddhist community, is a musician with very many years experience who has his own band and sometimes puts on music and poetry events at the North London Buddhist Centre in Holloway Road, London, N7, He is also an accomplished poet and story-teller and on this video plays the banjo.
